What is the earth made of?

The globe, sliced in two, is similar to a boiled egg sliced into rounds. The outermost part of the egg. This area is called the crust and is made of rock 5 to 40 km thick.

The inner, white part of the mantle. This area is called the mantle, which is also made of rock. However, it is a different type of rock from that which makes up the earth's crust.
Finally, there is the yolk of an egg. This is called the nucleus. In the nucleus, there is a mass of metal in the center, surrounded by liquid metal.
The interior of the earth can be roughly divided into three parts: the crust, mantle, and core. Each of these parts is made of either rock or metal. Thus, the earth is mostly made of rocks and metals.

The continental portion of the continental crust is composed of granitic rocks at the top and basaltic rocks at the bottom. The oceanic crust is composed entirely of basaltic rocks. The mantle is thought to be composed of olivine and other silicate minerals, while the core is thought to be composed of iron, nickel, and other metals.
