Haruka Nakatake (Sales Division, Hamamatsu Head Office, Ichijo Corporation)

What kind of houses do people live in? Some people live in apartments, while others live in houses? A house is a very important and special place where a family lives every day!
By the way, do you know who builds the houses and how? After listening to the customer's wishes for the kind of house they want and the kind of life they want to lead, a blueprint is drawn, materials are gathered, and the house is built. ...... Building a house is a big job that involves many people.
In this interview, we spoke with Haruka Nakatake, who works for Ichijo Corporation, a company that builds houses!
What kind of company is Ichijo Corporation?
Ichijo Corporation is a company that builds houses all over Japan. The company was founded about 45 years ago in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

It was right around the time when people began to say that a major earthquake would occur in the Tokai region (Shizuoka, Aichi, Gifu, and Mie prefectures). Since then, we have continued to build houses with the idea of "building houses that are resistant to earthquakes" and "building houses that are resistant to disasters.
Since the company's inception, Ichijo Corporation has always placed the utmost importance on the desire for customers to live in good homes with peace of mind. To this end, we are researching various technologies for building strong houses that can withstand disasters and for comfortable living, and we are refining our house-building techniques through actual experiments.
How do you build a "disaster-resistant house"?
Ichijo Corporation places great importance on "experimenting and building.
Most of the performance of a house can be determined by calculation. However, there are times when the calculations are correct, but when the house is actually built, it does not perform as expected.
That is why at Ichijo Corporation, we actually build houses and subject them to the same shaking as an earthquake, or the same conditions as a typhoon or flood, to thoroughly check how well they can withstand any degree of disaster.

We are repeating experiments so that we can keep improving our technology to the point where we can say, "If it is this resistant to disasters, we can really rest assured.
What kind of work do you do, Mr. Nakatake?
I work in a department called "Sales Division. My main job is to create "tools" that are used to communicate the features of Ichijo Komuten to our customers.
We make a variety of materials to explain to customers, models that show what the house actually looks like, and tour facilities. We also plan events.
Rather than just following a set procedure, my job is to think about how to communicate the features and qualities of Ichijo Komuten houses to the customer.
When do you feel happy or rewarded in your work?
I am most pleased when a sales person tells me that the materials and hands-on facilities I created were easy to understand and well received by customers.
It also takes a lot of time to create facilities and models for customers to tour, so the moment they are completed makes me happy.
The Sales Division is a small group of eight members, but I find it interesting to work together to create a single product.
What are some of the hardest times in your work?
Ichijo Corporation builds houses with a focus on performance. We are committed to building homes with "performance" in mind. We have so many things we want to convey to our customers that we feel it is difficult to find the right balance between conveying our message in a one-sided way, and not overloading the customer with too many things that are difficult to understand.
Also, since we rarely have the opportunity to talk directly with our customers, we sometimes feel uneasy about whether there is a gap between what they want to know and what we are making.
When I have a problem or trouble, I try to ask various people instead of thinking alone. I ask for advice not only from members of the Sales Division who work in the same department, but also from sales people who have many opportunities to talk directly with customers. ......
If you ask a lot of people for their opinions, you may get different answers from what you thought you would get, and you may find unexpected solutions.

How did you get into this line of work?
I was very interested in Ichijo Komuten's approach of thinking outside of the box and taking on new challenges as they arise.
For example, Ichijo Corporation has installed floor heating for warmth and comfort, not only in parts of the house, but also in hallways, bathrooms, and other nooks and crannies. We do this not only for comfort, but also for health and safety.
In fact, bathrooms, which are especially cold in the house, are prone to heat shock, an accident in which a sudden temperature difference causes a sudden change in blood pressure.

To prevent accidents, it is important to maintain a constant temperature throughout the house. However, Ichijo Corporation did not give up and continued research and development, saying, "Let's make something we can offer at a reasonable price! We have continued our research and development.
We work hard and hone our skills to address housing issues. I decided to join the company because I wanted to challenge myself in such a job of building houses for customers. That's why I decided to join the company.
What are your future goals?
We would like to make more people aware of Ichijo Corporation's "disaster-resistant house-building technology" and make it a commonplace option.

A house is so expensive that it is said to be a once-in-a-lifetime purchase. Yet, I feel that currently few customers are willing to spend money on it, considering the risk of disaster.
Even though we know it is important to prepare for disasters, we may think, "It will be fine," or it may be difficult to think of it as our own business.
Several years ago there was a major flood in my hometown and my grandmother's house was damaged. My grandmother and other people living there renovated and rebuilt their houses, but I learned that they were worried that they would suffer the same damage again if a big typhoon hit.
Some of you may not even know about "disaster-resistant house-building techniques. We believe that the first step is to make more people aware of this technology.
How do I work for a home builder?

Home-related certifications, such as a real estate agent, interior coordinator, financial planner (FP), or mortgage advisor, enable us to provide more professional advice to our clients.
A message of support for everyone who is interested in working in the home building industry
A house is the most important place where people spend the longest time in their lives. In addition, building a house is a major once-in-a-lifetime life event.
I think the appeal of my job lies in working with customers to fulfill their dreams and wishes for the kind of house they want to live in when they build their homes.
That is why I hope that those who work for a house-building company will be very close to their customers.

At Ichijo Corporation, we have a slogan: "We are more passionate about building your home than you are about building our customers' homes. This is the slogan of Ichijo Corporation. As this slogan suggests, the ideal candidate for Ichijo is someone who can take customers seriously.
There is a lot of work and technology that goes into the house we live in that we cannot see. First of all, we must ask ourselves, "How is a house built? What kind of techniques do they have? It might be interesting to find out.
What are Ichijo Corporation's amazing technologies and experiments?
