No special qualifications or educational background is required to become a security guard. Once you are hired by a security company, undergo training at that company (training is mandatory), and fulfill several requirements, such as being at least 18 years old and having no criminal record in the past, you can immediately go out into the field. Therefore, it is relatively easy to get hired as a part-timer or part-time worker. On the other hand, security companies are now said to be eager to recruit permanent employees. This is because the growing security awareness of society as a whole has made it essential to secure professional security guards with advanced knowledge and experience and to train cadets for executive positions. Bodyguard" is a common name for a security guard, and "SP" is a job similar to "bodyguard. SP stands for "Security Police," and is a civil servant who is a police officer (belonging to the Metropolitan Police Department's Security Protection Division). Bodyguards, who are private security guards, basically protect anyone upon request, but SPs protect only the Japanese government and foreign dignitaries, etc. Since SPs are police officers, they carry guns. There are no qualifications required to become a security guard, but there are six types of security service certifications, and since they are national certifications, obtaining one is advantageous for finding a job or changing careers. It also leads to career advancement. For example, the "Airport Security Service Certification Test" is useful for a career in "Facility Security," the first job, and the "Valuables Transportation Certification Test" is a certification to test knowledge and ability in "Transportation Security," the third job, and is proof of standing in a position of responsibility. There are also special certifications, such as the "Security Guard Certificate for Transporting Hazardous Materials, Including Nuclear Fuel Materials," which requires a security guard with this certification to perform transport operations. There are two levels of certification, Level 1 and Level 2, and there is no age limit for Level 2. Many people aim to obtain this certification after becoming a security guard.

Even though Japan is said to be the safest country in the world, news reports of crime are constant. People are becoming more security conscious, and an increasing number of companies and facilities are installing advanced security systems. Many people are also requesting personal security services. The demand for security guards will only increase, and from a broad perspective, it is a promising profession with a promising future. However, just as examples of the use of security cameras are rapidly evolving, new technologies such as computer-controlled security systems and the introduction of AI are also rapidly advancing. Until now, security has been a tough, physical job, but it is likely that personnel who can cope with such state-of-the-art systems will be in high demand in the future.

The average annual salary ranges from 2.39 to 3.53 million yen. Since security guards are employed in far greater numbers on a part-time and part-time basis, salary amounts tend to be tabulated lower.
