Key Points !
Get certified at a school that teaches aromatherapy.
To become an aromatherapist, it is common to graduate from a vocational school to learn about aromatherapy, and then find employment at an aromatherapy salon, aroma store, or esthetic salon. In some cases, aromatherapists are able to find employment by learning basic knowledge and skills at workshops and seminars held at aroma stores and other places without going to a vocational school. There is no national qualification for aromatherapists, but there are several private certifications. The most well-known is the one accredited by the Japan Aroma Environment Association, which is recognized by the Cabinet Office as a public interest corporation. The association sponsors the Aromatherapist Departmental Examination and the Aromatherapy Certification Examination, and passing these examinations is proof of one's skill level.
