CPAs are money calculation specialists who check how various companies and organizations in Japan manage their money.
If money management is messed up, what will happen to the company? The company may think it is making money, but in fact it is in the red, and may suddenly go bankrupt. Many companies are managed by collecting money from banks, other companies, and individuals, so if the company goes bankrupt, some of them will be stuck together, and society as a whole will be in turmoil.

Many certified public accountants are employed by "auditing firms" that monitor the flow of money in large corporations. An increasing number of CPAs are working for general companies or management consulting (consultation) firms, helping their own companies or those of their clients to account for their money. After gaining experience, they can become independent and open their own "office" dealing with small and medium-sized companies in the same way as a certified tax accountant.
