TOEFL(R) Test

It is an international examination that tests English language skills necessary for studying abroad. It is the first hurdle for those who wish to study at an English-speaking university in the United States or other English-speaking countries!
Four English skills are tested on the computer.
Many people who enjoy learning English would like to study abroad in the future. However, in order to keep up with the classes at the school where they will study abroad, they will need to have a considerable amount of English ability. Being able to carry on a daily conversation is hardly enough.
Universities and graduate schools in the U.S., Canada, and other countries emphasize the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) to determine the English proficiency of applicants who are not native speakers of English. In other words, they require applicants to submit a score on the TOEFL(R) test, a universal English language proficiency test, as a measure of their English language ability for admission.
The test assesses four skills: Listening, Grammar, Reading, and Writing. Currently, there are two testing methods, written and computer-based, available at various locations in Japan, but from 2006, all tests will be administered by computer via the Internet (the test will still be taken at the site).
The most unique of these is the "speaking" question, which requires the candidate to speak English into a microphone attached to the computer, rather than answering the interviewer's questions.
We need to understand our history and culture.
At American universities, students read a lot of English texts in class and write a large number of reports for homework. Therefore, TOEFL(R) questions are often based on expressions necessary for college life and content from college textbooks, and a basic understanding of history and culture is essential in addition to English study in order to achieve a high score on the TOEFL(R).
Every year, approximately 600,000 people worldwide take the TOEFL(R). For those who want to study abroad, the TOEFL(R) is a test that cannot be avoided.
