Amateur radio technician (4th class)

Japan is the world's largest amateur radio kingdom. Let's learn how radio waves work and the rules for using them, and get a radio technician's license!
Assemble your own antennas and communicators for wireless communication.
Today, we can easily converse and exchange information with people around the world thanks to the development of communication devices. In general, there are two types of communication devices: those that are wired, such as home telephones and the Internet, and those that transmit radio waves, such as cellular phones. These are all commercial means of communication, but there has long been amateur radio communication as a hobby, in which individuals build antennas and transmitters/receivers and transmit radio waves.
Invisible television, radio, and cellular phone signals are flying around in the sky. Since it would cause trouble if amateur radio operators broadcast radio waves as they please, there are rules set by law. A "radio operator's license" approved by the government is required to operate an amateur radio station.
Even elementary school students can pass the exam if they take the course.
To obtain a radio operator's license as an amateur radio technician, one must either pass a national examination administered by the Japan Radio Association or attend a training course workshop conducted by the Japan Amateur Radio Development Association (JARD) and pass the final examination.
The exam consists of two parts: "radio engineering," which covers communication technology such as radios and antennas, and "radio laws and regulations," which define the rules for personal use of radio waves. It is more common to take a training course workshop than a national examination.
The appeal of amateur radio lies in the fun of learning communication technology and chatting with people around the world using one's own radio. Recently, amateur radio is being reevaluated as a useful form of communication for communicating information and rescuing people even when other means of communication have been cut off due to an earthquake or other disaster. The volunteer activities of amateur radio operators are also attracting attention.
